Treatment Process

Treatment Process in Medical Oncology

1. Examination and Diagnosis

If a malignant lung tumor is suspected, we will clarify this using state-of-the-art examination techniques. Most diagnostic procedures take place in our clinic. Should further examinations be necessary that cannot be performed here, we will coordinate them with other facilities.

2. Creation of an Individual Treatment Plan

Once the diagnosis and stage of progression have been definitively determined, we develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored precisely to the individual patient. A major advantage here is our interdisciplinary collaboration within the Thoraxzentrum Ruhrgebiet. Regular interdisciplinary conferences are held at the Augusta Oncology Center, where various specialist departments (thoracic surgery, radiation therapy, oncology, and others) are represented. Through mutual exchange, we can ensure that we create an optimal treatment plan considering various medical perspectives and current findings.

3. Treatment of the Disease

We can perform the majority of the planned treatments (thoracic surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, interventional radiology procedures) in our clinic. If further therapies or interventions are necessary, we will contact our cooperating treatment partners. This way, we can ensure optimal care. Furthermore, we offer our patients helpful support through psycho-oncological services and social services. Palliative care procedures are also part of our treatment spectrum.
