The Thoraxzentrum Ruhrgebiet is a joint facility of the Evangelisches Krankenhaus Herne and the Augusta-Kranken-Anstalt Bochum and also serves as an Academic Teaching Hospital. It consists of the Klinik für Thoraxchirurgie and the Klinik für Pneumologie und Infektiologie (both at the Herne location) as well as the Klinik für Onkologie (at the Bochum location). We are the provider in the Ruhr region for patients with thoracic diseases of all kinds. At both locations, where a total of 200 beds are available, we currently care for over 6,000 outpatient and inpatient patients per year with more than 50 doctors. Attending Physician Anesthesiology (m/f/d)

Field of Activity
- More than 10,000 anesthesia services per year
- Care for patients in the clinics for General Surgery incl. Robotics, Orthopedics/Trauma Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Gynecology, Neuroradiology, Cardiology, Thoracic Surgery (approx. 1,800 procedures per year/Center of Excellence/incl. robotic surgery), and Pulmonology at the Herne and Herne-Eickel locations in full or part-time
- All modern anesthesia procedures with a high proportion of spinal and ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks
- TÜV-recertified acute pain therapy, inpatient multimodal pain medicine
- Intensive care medicine with a special focus on infectiology (e.g., regular ABS rounds) as well as treatment of ARDS (incl. ECMO), MODS, and sepsis at both locations
- In-hospital emergency medicine, polytrauma care
- If interested/qualified, activity as an emergency physician and/or as a Senior Emergency Physician, NEF at the EVK-Herne location
- Participation in student education
Qualifications
- Specialist (m/f/d), ideally with an additional qualification in intensive care medicine, with a particular interest in further specialization (e.g., in thoracic anesthesia) and high motivation to help shape, introduce new methods, and further increase and professionalize the performance of our clinic

The Klinik für Pneumologie und Infektiologie within the Thoraxzentrum Ruhrgebiet (Ev. Krankenhaus Herne-Eickel location) is looking for a/an
Resident Physician
We are one of the largest thoracic centers in Germany. Founded in 2006, we have seen continuous growth and currently care for approx. 6,000 inpatient and 10,000 outpatient patients annually at the Herne-Eickel location alone.
The Klinik für Pneumologie und Infektiologie provides the entire spectrum of pneumological diagnostics and therapy. We are certified as a Lung Cancer Center (DKG), Weaning Center (DGP), and Center for Clinical Infectiology (DGI); additionally, there is an accredited sleep laboratory (DGS). Accordingly, the focus of care lies in pneumological oncology and ventilation and sleep medicine, as well as in the treatment of obstructive and interstitial lung diseases. Infectiology, as part of the clinic, is positioned across clinics within the network of the Evangelische Krankenhausgemeinschaft (EVKHG) and, beyond clinical care, also operates Antibiotic Stewardship (ABS) in close cooperation with hygiene.
At the center of our work are the patients who seek our help and for whom we stand up with our expertise and empathy.
We are looking for a colleague who is striving for specialist status or the additional qualification in Pulmonology. Additional qualifications that can be acquired include Infectiology, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, Sleep Medicine, and medicinal tumor therapy. Participation in emergency physician care is desired but not a requirement. We offer all prerequisites and every support for obtaining the corresponding qualifications. Rotations to focus wards and functional departments as well as regular training and further education are natural parts of our curriculum. Finally, participation in outpatient patient care within the MVZ associated with the clinic is also possible.
Additional initiative and team spirit are highly welcome. There is the possibility of scientific work including a dissertation and the basis for a habilitation. We value a stimulating working atmosphere.
The staffing key is calculated so that sufficient time remains for both conscientious patient care and one’s own qualification. Likewise, the duty load remains within limits; there is sufficient support from background services during shifts.
Herne is located in the heart of the Ruhr region and offers a wealth of options regarding place of residence, schools, and cultural and sporting activities.
Remuneration is according to the AVR-DD, plus on-call duty compensation and the social benefits usual for the church sector.
