Weaning Center
Modern ventilation techniques make it possible to successfully treat even elderly and seriously ill patients with respiratory failure. However, the subsequent transition from mechanical ventilation to independent breathing is difficult in some cases. Weaning refers to a specialized expertise in the field of ventilator weaning. Within the Thoraxzentrum Ruhrgebiet, the Department of Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases, together with the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, provides care for patients with difficult weaning.
Lung Cancer Center
In our certified Lung Cancer Center at both the Herne and Bochum locations, we care for over 7,000 outpatients and more than 6,400 inpatients every year.
Center for Clinical Infectious Diseases
We are certified as a Center for Clinical Infectious Diseases by the German Society for Infectious Diseases (DGI).
We treat patients with infectious diseases on our infectious disease ward or in the intensive care unit, depending on the severity.
We are responsible for antibiotic stewardship and infectious disease consultations throughout the hospital.
