Treatment Process in Thoracic Oncology
1. Examination and Diagnosis
If lung or pleural cancer is suspected, we will confirm the diagnosis using state-of-the-art examination techniques. Diagnostics are performed in our clinic, the local Clinic for Thoracic Surgery, and the affiliated practice for Nuclear Medicine and Radiology. Should further examinations be necessary that cannot be performed here, we will coordinate them with other facilities.
2. Developing an Individual Treatment Plan
Once the diagnosis and stage of spread have been definitively determined, we develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored precisely to each individual patient. The interdisciplinary thoracic tumor board meets three days a week, with representatives from various specialist departments (Oncology, Pulmonology, Radiation Therapy, Thoracic Surgery, Thoracic Oncology). Through this mutual exchange, we ensure that we create an optimal treatment plan, considering various medical perspectives and current findings.
3. Treatment of the Disease
We can perform the majority of the planned treatments (thoracic surgery, drug therapy (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy)) in our clinic. If further therapies or procedures are necessary, we will contact our cooperating treatment partners. This ensures optimal care. Furthermore, we offer our patients supportive care through psycho-oncological services and social services. Palliative medicine procedures are also part of our treatment spectrum.
